Staged readings of three plays:

Outside Mullingar

by John Patrick Shanley

directed by David Scott Howell

"Tony Award nominee for best play, Outside Mullingaris a romantic comedy set in rural Ireland. Anthony and Rosemary are lovelorn farmers who haven’t got a clue when it comes to love. These hopeless singletons will need to overcome a bitter land feud, familial rivalries and their own romantic fears to find happiness. Full of dark humor and poetic prose, John Patrick Shanley's tenderhearted portrait reminds us it's never too late to take a chance on love." --recommended age 12 and up

Decision Height:

by Meredith Dayna Levy

directed by Annalise Settefrati

"“Decision Height” tells the story of nine Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs) training at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas between 1943 and 1944. Although the characters are fictional, their experiences were reality for over 1,000 women who heard the call to arms and signed up for wartime service. The play balances comedy, drama, friendship, sacrifice, history, and the good old-fashioned ‘girl power’ of the 1940s." --recommended age 12 and up

Selections from Junie B. Jones and Ramona Quimby:

by Barbara Park and Beverly Cleary

directed by Mary Heinrichs Williams

"Ramona Quimby and Junie B. Jones are two beloved storybook characters. These precocious, passionate, outspoken young girls have charmed adults and children alike with their antics. Prepare to be delighted with hilarious scenes from these books that touch on common themes such as running away and visits to the Principal." --appropriate for all ages

Produced by Rachel Martin

A note from the board:

"This fall, BACT is trying something different. Rather than fully design, costume, and stage one production, THREE shows have been selected to be performed as Reader's Theatre. In Readers Theatre, the actors do not memorize their lines, but instead use vocal expression to tell the story while reading from the script - similar to a radio show. The emphasis is on character development, and the set/costumes/props are left to the audience's imagination."
